Walsworth Adviser Academy (redirected from Walsworth)

This can't be a truer statement.  I had the great fortune of attending the Walsworth Adviser Academy this summer in Kansas City.

I would like to start off by saying, THANK YOU to the NBC Foundation for helping make this possible!  Because of their support I was able to network with other advisors from all over the United States.  We all shared ideas eight hours a day and I brought home lots more than I was able to give.

This was an opportunity for newer advisors to discuss basic yearbook skills, staff organization, staff motivation, deadline management, curriculum, ladder and book organization, creating a budget, theme development, coverage, design, grading, book distribution and legal concerns.  This track spanned over two days, with very detailed presentations and plenty of time to ask questions.  We ended each day with an opportunity to discuss issues we have encountered and received suggestions on solutions.

The third day was spent in two sessions.  The first session I attended was on photography.  The presenter shared with us some tips on how to use settings on our cameras to get the shot we wanted.  She also demonstrated different angles and positioning to get those perfect shots.  The afternoon was spent looking through current award winning yearbooks and exploring different story ideas.  We had the opportunity to look through tons of books for great story ideas and then shared our findings.  You will have to watch for stories on the lunch ladies, locker room moments and the life of a desk in upcoming yearbooks.

As MasterCard would say…..

Yes, there was a registration fee.  Yes, there was the hotel and travel expense.  But the experience I had at this academy was priceless!
